About Me

Kate Adams is an artist and teacher living in Chicago’s Humboldt Park neighborhood.  She believes that being an artist (in her case, a painter) is similar to being a scientist or a student- she tries to discover, experiment, taking risks and learn from mistakes and successes. Her abstract paintings revolve around the material of paint; creating layers of surface and significance. She hopes that each viewer will interpret her paintings with as much variation as there are personalities and experiences.

Kate received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1996 and worked for years painting murals in Baltimore and later, in Chicago. In 2003, she received her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Columbia College Chicago. She was a teacher in a CPS high school on the west side for 7 years. Kate is currently a teaching artist at Marwen where everyday she learns more about art and the world from the perspective of her students.
